Quilted Security Dongle and Key Chain
Husqvarna Viking 4 D Professional software has a security dongle that comes with the program. In order to access the 4D programs you activate the dongle and must have the dongle inserted into the USB port in your computer to run the software.
The top corner of the dongle has a plastic hole that you can attach a key ring. So I figured why use a standard key chain right when we have a great opportunity to be creative!
Why not make a dongle keeper or key chain holder. These are fantastic to have when taking classes with other folks that are also using software with dongles. What a bummer it would be to accidently switch dongles with someone and not know it till you got home. You'd have to waste your time playing detective instead of spending your time sewing.
Toddler Car Seat Covers
My husband bought me a new car the other day so I thought Mary & Maddie needed new car seat covers to cover their toddler seats. This time, I also made a car seat pad to go under the seat so that it does not leave any marks on my new car seats.
The hot pink and zebra was really fun to work with. The zebra fabric is cotton and the hot pink is a recycled fleece fabric that is made from recycled bottles. Super soft and pretty- can't wait to pick the girls up from swimming camp today to see it.
Sew Green- Recycled Soda Can Fabric Postcard
Zero Calories Fabric Postcard - Finally an addiction that is actually good for you...Fabric Postcards. I guarantee that you can't make just one of them, but not to worry these fabric postcards have no calories, no fat, no carbs.
This fabric postcard was made from a Diet Rite Soda can, batik bubble fabric (thought it looked like carbonation) vintage buttons and scrap of fancy yarn for that little extra pizzazz.
This was super easy to make. All you need are some recycled materials, fast-2-fuse, soda can, buttons, threads and sewing machine (but you can hand sew if you like.)
Quilted Journals- Great Scrap Buster Project
I am a huge fan of Quilters Home magazine! In the May/June issue they had an awesome article about sewing green projects. One of the designers Jessie Croker offered instructions for Quilted Journals (pg. 82 & 83).
They were "sew" easy to make and do not take much fabric approx 2 pieces 8" X 11", bias tape and paper. I made two today to use at the Husqvarna Viking 2008 Convention in San Antonio in June. The journals will make great gifts and since they can be made from scrap fabric they will be inexpensive but really creative. The covers could be embroidered, painted with inks and dyes, embellished with hot fix crystals. I plan to make lots of these for my friends.

Batik crazy quilted scrap book or album cover. I made mine to hold fabric postcards. But it can hold any sized photos that you would like.
Landscape Quilt - May Mini Quilt
May Mini-Quilt
This quilt was too much fun to make. Wish I could say that I followed the pattern directions...well maybe next time. Many patterns I buy because I like the photo of the finished quilt on the front. From there I like to interpret the image into something that is my own. Being a huge fan of mixed media this pattern was a perfect opportunity to add dimension and texture.
The base of the quilt is a Kaufman all over beige print fabric. From there I added layers of outdoor textured fabrics from the top (sky) to the bottom (water and rocks). Each layer was fused down and when the entire base fabric was full I pressed the fabrics, placed a piece of hobbs batting behind and then began to thread paint the quilt. Starting from the waterfall I thread painted to look like falling water then crashing waves as the bottom. Each little fabric panel was thread painted according to the textured print in the fabric. The rocks where thread painted like rocks..etc.
After all the thread painting was done, I added silk roving to the bottom of the waterfall and into the sky by felting then free motion stitching. Once the roving was on the waterfall I added transparent blue tule over the waterfall to make it shimmer. Then onto my favorite part, the rocks. The upper rocks were made by painting then melting recycled tyvek envelopes.
This would make a fantastic class as it uses lots of different techniques, feet, decorative threads, and free motion thread painting.
Plain To Fancy Shaving Cream Dyed Fabric
My four pieces of hand dyed fabrics for the "Plain to Fancy" Fiber Art Traders exchange.
I wish they photographed better than they did. They are really pretty in person. The first upper left corner was dyed with blue and purple shaving cream then I added floral stencils with a dark blue on top. Upper right was made with shaving cream dyeing by swirling red, orange and yellow dye then adding light red flower rubber stamp impressions. Bottom left corner was shaving cream dyed with dark red and silver then the color was scraped across the fabric. The last was shaving cream dyed dark red with dark red flower rubber stamps. The base fabrics were either muslin or silk. I made two of each.
This can be a very fun class. The students can learn different techniques for altering fabric with Tsukineko (all purpose ink for Fantastix). We work the the ink and several different mediums such as shaving cream (shown above), aloe vera gel, rock salt, crayons and more. During the class I encourage them to try all the mediums on a small blank fabric, on a tone on tone fabric, and then to "color" an embroidery.
Postcard Pizzazz Creative Sewing Class
Hands on class or demonstration A fast paced creative machine class. It all starts with a trunk show of hundreds of fabric and mixed media postcards to get everyone excited about sewing. Class members will leave with several fabric postcards, each emphasising creative sewing/embellishing techniques. The Postcard Pizzazz class includes techniques for construction of fabric postcards, the use of stabilizers, and decorative threads. Then we move to the fun stuff...embellishments: decorative stitches, embroidery, felting, applique, collage and more. During the class I encourage people to use their decorative stitches and 4D software to embellish postcards. This class is perfect for the demonstration of the Designer SE's specialty stitches & monogramming capabilities, The Huskystar ER10 embellishing machine and 4D Software. Also featured in the class are stabilizers, threads, needles, accessory feet, hot fix embellishments, and Tsukineko inks.

I will teach how to embellish a photo that is printed onto fabric with free-motion stitching to make a beautiful thread painting.
